Dreams about being chased

I love sharing my passion for dreams, and often hold self-growth talks and classes in dream psychology and dream interpretation. What I always remind participants is how all dreams are always unique to us personally – and we are the only ones who will ultimately know what the dream is here to convey. There are so many variables to take into account when we work with our dreams, such as our personal life events and experiences, our associations with symbols, our feelings and reactions, our emotional patterns, current and past challenges, as well as our general life style and sense of well-being.

There are however some types of dreams that appear to be quite common for many of us, and even though we can’t pinpoint an exact meaning – as the meaning would depend on personal life circumstances, I like offering some thoughts and ideas on possible areas for further self-exploration.

Very often during my events, I’m asked the following question:

“What does it mean when I dream I’m being chased?”

A dream where we are chased by someone is definitely a popular dream that most of us have had at some point in our lives, and it is also not uncommon for a chasing dream to come back over again – and turn into a recurring dream.

Recurring dreams enter our lives when we’re not getting the insights from the first dream that was created by our unconscious in order to help us enhance our awareness about a situation in our life, or bring unconscious personality traits or emotional patterns to the surface.

Chasing dreams often come about to help showcase something we do unconsciously, or sometimes consciously – but without being aware of how much it is damaging us. Perhaps you have a massive anger that you feel you can’t control – and when you feel the anger boiling up, you may feel scared and want to run away from it. Likewise, there could be an underlying anxiety that we live in denial of – that is trying to make itself heard, accepted, and understood.

When you have a chasing dream, ask yourself what it is you’re really running away from. Is there a side to yourself you may not see or perhaps feel uncomfortable about? If you feel angry or anxious often, what is the real reason for this emotion?

Anxiety is a mask for fear. What is it you fear?

A dream about being chased could also come about if there is a particular situation you’re avoiding in your life. Perhaps there is someone you need to confront? By asking yourself these questions you build higher awareness, and also sync yourself with your inner power.

Chasing dreams will continue until we develop higher awareness about what’s going on and work through and face our fears, and learn to accept and understand ourselves with compassion, rather than punishing ourselves.
